Yoga is a vast system. Like a tree, it's roots are deeply grounded and the braches reach far and in many directions. These workshops and special classes allow for a more intensive experience and explore a particular aspect of the practice.
108 SURYA NAMASKER
A journey of a 1,000 miles begins with a single step ~ Lao Tzu
Yoga Mala is a journey of 108 steps, a moving mediation that takes you on a pilgrimage inside. We move and breathe together in synchronicity raising the prana and rhythm that carries us along the journey.
As though meditating on a mala, we move through each Surya Namaskar like a single bead threaded together by the breath. One bead at a time we complete the circle.
This practice is often done to mark the changing of the seasons, Soltice, but can be practiced anytime one is ready to invigorate change and movement in their lives.
TANTRA & PARTNER YOGA
Tantra is the yoga of relationships. Its practice is meant to give us a deeper understanding of our self and nurtures our connection with others. It helps us to tune in to the solar and lunar energies in our bodies and helps us to balance their qualities, considered masculine and feminine in nature. As we cultivate a healthy balance within ourselves, we can then work with balancing our energies with those around us.
This workshop will include asana (postures), pranayama (breath techniques) and chanting instruction. We’ll discuss the role of our solar/lunar energies in our relationships and the importance of balancing them. We’ll cover how we can develop and utilize these energies. We’ll work with some solo techniques and also some partner practices. It’s not mandatory to bring a partner but it is recommended. You can bring a love partner, friend or family member, someone you feel comfortable with and would like to cultivate more depth in the relationship.
PATH OF THE YOGI WARRIOR
From ancient times there has been a battle between the dark and the light. The darkness in human nature; greed, ignorance, desire for control and intolerance. We often think of a warrior as the one who violently fights to win control over land and people, but as the universe has a natural balance, there are also warriors of the light. They are the ones who live their lives to bring healing, compassion and connection to the world.
This workshop will explore the ancient roots of martial arts and yoga, which are deeply intertwined. Using storytelling, techniques of Hatha Yoga, Buddhist philosophy and Shoalin Kung Fu and other martial arts systems, we will investigate how these practices and philosophies intersect. We will train to be a peaceful warrior, full of heart & fire! The yogi warrior seeks to master himself rather than those around him.
"Yoga has helped me strengthen my body for improved spinal alignment and subsequent reduction in pain, and has also helped provide better balance and overall function. Leah is very knowledgeable and her teaching style is both informative and compassionate. Her classes are challenging, yet accessible to all levels and abilities in a non-competitive environment that allows everyone to work at the level they are comfortable with. I have learned a lot about the yoga of life through Leah's classes and workshops, and have benefited from applying those teachings."
