In celebration of Summer Solstice, I’ll be leading a practice of 108 Surya Namakar (Sun Salutations) at Rise Wellness on Saturday, June 20, 9a.m. To prepare for this powerful ritual, the practice principal this week is the Manipura Chakra (the yellow energy center located at the solar plexus, just above the navel). When we salute the sun, we are doing more than just honoring the Sun that nourishes and gives life to the planet. We are also honoring our internal solar power; the fire of life, our vital life force prana. Namaskars are a form of moving prayer and a way to stoke and strengthen our life force.
When Manipura Chakra is balanced, meaning the energy is flowing unhindered, we have will-power, confidence and vitality. We are in our power which also brings about a sense of being centered and peaceful. If we are out of balance at the navel center, we may find ourselves struggling with feelings of being powerless, frustrated, lethargic, fearful and insecure. Physically, it supports the liver, pancreas, gallbladder, stomach and spleen.
