One of the most valuable qualities we can cultivate is the ability to be adaptable. The nature of life is that it is always changing and evolving, we can either move with change or we find ourselves struggling to hold on to the way things were.
To skillfully adapt in life, we have to practice being very present and honest with ourselves about the way things are right now. If we’re not seeing what’s happening clearly, by projecting storylines or not being transparent with ourselves, we won’t be able to adjust with the flow of reality. The more accurate information you have, the better choices and responses you can make in any given moment. This is the best vantage point to find solutions to problems and overcome obstacles, as well as direct ourselves toward our goals and purpose in life.
On a physical level, our bodies are shaped and formed by our thoughts and actions. We can become injured or sick and our body continues to adapt and change for its survival. We can also consciously reshape and redefine our body through diet and exercise. Our mental attitude also impacts our physiology.
The mind is also very pliable and it functions best when it’s open and receptive to new information. If we allow our mind to become rigid and limited to past experience, then we find ourselves living the same reality in our heads, even if external circumstances have changed. We’ll only see what the mind already believes to be true. The more present and honest we can be with ourselves, the better choices we can make for our health and happiness.
