Practice the Pause
January 5, 2016
All phenomenon in the universe is made up of a combination of the five elements; earth, water, air, fire and the fifth element is the void. This is the space, silence and stillness between the other elements. In yoga, this is where the magic happens and realizations appear.
We use Hatha Yoga to quiet down the body and mind so that we can sit still and meditate. Pranayama (breath control), and Pratyahara, (separating from the senses) allows us to develop a focused mind when meditating. When we slow down our breath, we slow down our mind and the experience of time.
In Yoga, every pause is pregnant with possibility. When we tap into the void, we once again become a blank canvas, free of the colors and conditioning we have collected from our experience in this life. Yogis practice finding a pause between thoughts, silence between words and stillness before action. This is the best place to see clearly what is happening and ensure we’re being present in the moment.
